Spiritual Freedom

Spiritual Freedom is a relatively simple idea. However, since we’ve inherited strange ideas about “spirituality” and “freedom” it is important to clarify what I mean by this term. Spiritual Freedom is akin to what St. Ignatius called “indifference.” It means being able to let go of anything that gets in the way of loving God or others. It isn’t not-caring. Rather, it means being willing to give up any created thing in order to serve love. To quote early Anabaptist Hans Haffner, it means being “ready to give up for love’s sake even what God has given us.”
