Director of Advancement (Posted: March 2024)

The Center for Prophetic Imagination (CPI) has an opening for a Director of Advancement to join our small staff. This is a .5 position with a possibility for expanded pay and hours in the future.

CPI currently has two regular staff members. In collaboration with another organization, CPI also works with educators and spiritual directors on a contract basis.

Working in collaboration with our Director of Formation and Director of Communications, the Director of Advancement will help forge and maintain relationships with members, donors, and strategic partners to deepen our capacity and sustainability.

The Director of Advancement will direct CPI’s fundraising and social engagement efforts to further our “Three Phase Plan” (see below) through seeking donations, grants, and foundation support.

The starting pay rate and .5 hours reflect our current budgetary constraints. It is our hope that, as the Director of Advancement helps grow our budget, pay and hours will also grow. CPI is committed to paying our staff a roughly equivalent hourly wage/salary.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead CPI in developing and implementing a comprehensive fund-raising strategy.
• Work with board of directors, and other volunteers, to support them in a more active fundraising and networking posture.
• Identify and cultivate new donors and funding sources.
• Monitor donor information; provide and present analysis to board and staff.
• Cultivate a deepening relationship with donor/members.
• Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and collaborations.
• Seek and secure grants.
• Cultivate awareness of, and engagement with, CPI.
• Collaborate with other directors to clarify messaging and “branding.”
• Collaborate with other directors to promote programming, public speaking/workshops, and content.
• Collaborate with the Director of Communications to explore opportunities for e-commerce, merch, etc.

A strong candidate has:

• Demonstrated experience in development work (managing and forging donor relations with a variety of donor sources).
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.
• Grant-writing experience.
• Flexible, adaptable, and self-motivated mojo suitable for working with a small remote staff.
• Cultivated awareness of intersectionality and the way in which oppressive systems function.
• Familiarity with progressive spirituality, including the communities, organizations, etc that actively engage the intersection between spirituality and justice.
• Experience with social justice movements and on-the-ground activism.
• Deep resonance with the Center for Prophetic Imagination’s mission.
• Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan.
• Solid organizational and time-management skills.
• Capacity/willingness to learn how to use tools or platforms like Kindful (our current donor management software), GoFundme, etc. as well as conventional office software (Word, Excel, etc) and digital communications platform (like Zoom).

Compensation and Schedule:

This is a .5 position with a starting pay of $25/hr without benefits (a gross of $26,000/year). While the work schedule is flexible and negotiable, it is important that the candidate be responsive to communications in order to maintain continuity.

We recognize that a qualified candidate deserves greater remuneration; that is something we hope to offer as our organization grows. In the interests of transparency and equity, we are happy to send our annual budget to any candidates.

Additional Requirements:

While we prefer someone local to the Twin Cities (Minnesota), we will consider folks from other locations who work remotely.
